What Made The United States Great?
By Derek Hall
There are two main tenants that I always associate with the early days of the United States. They are... "The Protestant Work Ethic" and the "Principle of Self Employment" These two tenants between them led to what Adam Smith in his book "The Wealth Of Nations" described as... "An infinite number of small businesses competing in perfect competition with supply and demand in equilibrium" This state of affairs led to full employment and what I have always felt to be the most endearing feature of early American Life... Co-operation and neighbourliness. Between them these are the things that made America Great. Compare this with how things are today? |
